Aux Chord

Description

Aux Chord is a top-down bullet hell game that utilizes music and rhythm to power and guide the player's attacks.

Players control a single character, a jazz lover imbued with the power of summoning music beat blasts from their trombone that can reverse the damaging effect of the harmony shards. The player will move around a map, avoiding the onslaught of enemies or shooting distortion waves to knock them away while simultaneously attacking the enemies with the weapon of choice at the player's disposal. Once a level has been cleared of all enemies, a reward option is given to the player to further enhance or specialize their powers. The levels and player get progressively stronger and more powerful, reaching the final climax of a boss room.

Theme Interpretation

For this game jam, the theme is It's Spreading! is evoked both mechanically and narratively within the game. Mechanically, the player must fight against a horde of spreading ooze monsters, and collecting upgrades from defeating the oozes causes the background music to "fill out" with more instruments. Narratively, the player's character is spreading their love for their music to the masses to reverse the corruption plaguing the land, and in turn, the character is having the love of everyone else's music spread to them
